Making A+ performance a possibility for every student.

This is what most of us equate with the fundamental responsibility of schools, but it is so much more than just letter and number grades and it involves so much more than classroom teaching and knowledge retention.  Academic astuteness is important to college prep, vocational and military success.  I will support, promote and introduce policy that ensures academically rigorous and meaningful learning for K-12 students.

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, chronic absenteeism nearly doubled during COVID, and sustained,  in the after-math of COVID (NC DPI, 2020 - 2022).  Students need to be seated (literally!) for success!

We have nearly 20 Varsity sports across our traditional High Schools - add to this our high school Junior Varsity teams and Middle School athletics. We absolutely can not discount the value of athletics and student athletes to our schools and community. 

Theater, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Creative Writing, School Plays, just to name a few of the artistic outlets in our schools.  We have Performing Arts facilities at West Craven High and Havelock High and community auditoriums at Grover C. Fields Middle and J.T. Barber Elementary. We offer so much more than Academics and Athletics for ALL of our community stakeholders.

ALL Co-Curricular and Extracurricular Activities - (to name just a few) Marching Band, Jazz Band, FFA, FBLA, Student Government, Girls on the Run, HOSA, Battle of the Books, Science Olympiad, DECA, Chess Club, Drill Team, Yearbook - the list is exhaustive and endless.

     THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERY STUDENT !
